Irish Cancer Society: Anti-smoking campaigns are failing

The Irish Cancer Society (ICS) is warning the Government that it will launch a vigorous campaign to up the price of cigarettes in the next budget.

The Irish Cancer Society (ICS) is warning the Government that it will launch a vigorous campaign to up the price of cigarettes in the next budget.

The organisation says anti-smoking campaigns are clearly failing, with one-in-five 15 to 19-year-olds taking up the habit.

The ICS says increasing tax on cigarettes by 10% will lead to a 5% decrease in the number of young smokers.
