Hungarian father blasts Supreme Court extradition ruling

The father of two young children killed by a speeding Irish motorist in Hungary has launched a scathing attack on an extradition ruling by the Supreme Court last week.

The majority decision marks the second failed attempt to extradite Dublin accountant Ciaran Tobin, who was sentenced in his absence to three years in prison over the fatal road accident in April 2000.

At a press conference outside the Four Courts this afternoon, Bence Zoltai described the ruling as 'scandalous' 'queer' and ' a comedy'.

He is calling on Irish people to help with legal advice and he believes the matter may be taken up at EU level.

His criticisms have focused in particular on the reasoning used by Mr Justice Adrian Hardiman.

"His concerns included the grossly abnormal period of time during which Mr Tobin was under the threat of forcible separation from his family," Mr Zoltai said.

"What is grossly abnormal, in my opinion, is my forcible separation from my children by an irresponsible driver, and the queer decision of the Irish courts on this issue."
