Around 1,200 homes are still without power this morning after overnight storms.

ESB Network technicians and operational staff worked through the night to restore power to more than 4,000 customers in Meath, Clare, Mayo and Wexford.

Smaller faults are being notified as customers wake up and additional crews have been sent to those areas.

The majority of customers affected are located in Oldcastle, Co Meath where 800 customers are affected by a single major fault.

Miltown Malbay in Co Clare, Claremorris in Co Mayo and the South coast of Wexford has also been impacted.

"There are just under 2,000 people affected by power outages overnight, mainly caused by falling debris and branches," said ESB spokeswoman Bernardine Maloney.

"The majority of customers are located in the Oldcastle, Co Meath.

"More faults may emerge … this Christmas Eve morning."
