Representatives of three Dublin hospitals are to re-launch their plan to build the National Children's Hospital at the Mater site.

The consortium of the Mater, the Rotunda and Temple Street Hospitals have adjusted their plan after it was rejected by An Bord Pleanála in February, because of the impact it would have on the Dublin skyline.

It comes as news emerges of an offer from the Sport Minister to make land available to the HSE to facilitate a children's hospital at the sports campus at Abbotstown in west Dublin.

It means there are now 15 proposed locations for the hospital to choose from.

Master of the Rotunda, Sam Coulter-Smith, said that the Mater site is the best-equipped to handle the facility.

"It can be delivered, on time, efficiently, the site is ready the site is probably two to two-and-a-half years, if not three, ahead of any of the other of the other sites that are bring put forward," he said.

"So clearly … it remains the best site."
