: The March for the Homeless group is claiming that the man found dead on Westmoreland Street was a homeless man.In a video posted on the group's Facebook page, one activist returning from the overnight demonstration is seen on Westmoreland Street with the Garda cordon in background.
The man known as 'Dara' is a member of March for the Homeless, a group that supports homeless causes and organizes demonstrations.
In the video, Dara said: "One of our homeless friends has yet again died in a doorway on Westmoreland Street from the failed actions of the government.
"This is why we were sleeping outside the Dail today and raising awareness about what's going on and now we are here standing outside Bewleys hotel and there’s a dead homeless person just lying there and I just think that we need to highlight this. He's just lying on the ground dead.I cannot believe this."
One of the first to arrive on the scene, Anthony Flynn from Inner City Helping Homeless, said: "We got a call early this morning and dispatched a van. The scene we came across was disgraceful.
"The poor man looked like he’d been dragged out of Starbucks with a blue blanket thrown over him. You wouldn’t treat an animal like that. Not even a tent to preserve the man's dignity, just a blue blanket, as if that’s what he’s worth.
"This is the second death in a week, we’re losing bodies left right and center. This morning tourists were taking photos of a body in the middle of Dublin city.
"It’s totally unacceptable. Our group is seeing a 32% increase in people sleeping rough, we’re averaging at 150 people per night."
