A number of HMV branches around the country are closed to customers this morning for staff meetings.

A number of HMV branches around the country are closed to customers this morning for staff meetings.

Stores in Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Galway have confirmed they are to remain closed until this afternoon at least.

In the UK, HMV has gone into administration, however the National Consumer Agency has confirmed that the chain's 16 Irish stores are not covered by this, as its operations here are a separate corporate entity.

Around 300 people are employed by HMV in the Republic of Ireland.
