High Court to rule on whistleblower Wilson's legal challenge

The High Court is due to rule on a legal challenge by a garda whistleblower behind the penalty points controversy.

John Wilson, who is now retired from the force, is challenging a finding from 2012 that he breached disciplinary regulations by refusing to explain why he attended a courthouse in Cavan while off-duty.

The court heard when he first received correspondence informing him that an explanation was being sought he thought it was a joke.

He said he was astonished to find out it was real as he believed he had not done anything wrong.
