Reacting to the Mahon Tribunal's findings, Waterford Independent TD John Halligan has called on former taoiseach Bertie Ahern to explain the true source of thousands of pounds which passed through his accounts.
The inquiry found the former taoiseach failed to truthfully account for the funds.
“Much of the explanation provided by Mr Ahern as to the source of the substantial funds identified and inquired into in the course of the Tribunal’s public hearings was deemed by the Tribunal to have been untrue,” the report published today said.
Responding to the findings, Deputy Halligan said: "Many people will be asking that question - where did the money go?"
"What happened the money and why was he untruthful?
"People are looking for honesty and integrity in politics at this stage.
"It would do no harm, and do himself (Ahern) no harm to come forward and say exactly what happened with the money.
"It think it requires him to tell the truth and be honest with people at this stage."
Socialist Party TD Joe Higgins said the report should serve as a reminder to the public of the corruption of the last government.
“The report today will remind our people about the enormous greed and corruption of a tiny elect who plundered our society, making the majority pay for their greed with disastrous consequences,” said Mr Higgins.
