Gunshots fired at gardaí in Wexford ATM raid

Gunshots were fired at gardaí overnight during an ATM raid in Co Wexford.

The incident happened at the Ulster Bank branch in Enniscorthy. No one was injured.

At around 3.30am, gardaí were called to the bank on Rafter Street where a number of armed raiders were trying to steal an ATM machine.

The thieves fired shots at the uniformed officers while they were still in the patrol car. The raiders then made their getaway in a dark-coloured car in the direction of New Ross.

The area has been sealed off this morning while Gardaí carry out a technical examination. Gardaí say they are still trying to establish whether any money was taken.

They are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
