An anti-smoking lobby group is calling for the smoking ban to be strengthened and clarified in order to clamp down on increasingly enclosed smoking areas in pubs.

The Action for Smoking and Health (ASH) group says it is concerned about the number of outdoor smoking areas in clubs and pubs that have roof-like structures.

ASH say the ban must be clarified for smoking inspectors so they can recommend prosecution in cases where the law is being abused.
