Govt to talk to health unions as higher earners make talk breakthrough

Talks between the Government and public sector unions will resume at the Labour Relations Commission this afternoon in a bid to revive the Croke Park 2 deal.

There were significant breakthroughs overnight in the areas of pay cuts and increment freezes for higher earners and a deal was made in principle with the Garda Representative bodies.

Head of the LRC, Kieran Mulvey will report back to the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform Brendan Howlin this evening, and a full report will go to Cabinet tomorrow.

The Government is seeking to save €150m in health, half of all its savings for the year, and they are to resume talks with doctors and nurses at 2pm.
