The Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney has announced new measures for the detection of food fraud.
It comes as the investigation into the horse meat scandal continues.
Fifty extra food samples will be checked for horse DNA next month, under new EU rules.
In addition, Mr Coveney said a new protocol for testing beef products has been agreed with those in the meat processing, retailing and catering sectors.
It comes as catering firm Sodexo withdraws all frozen beef products from 2,300 of its outlets.
However, the company said its Irish operations are unaffected, as they use different suppliers to Sodexo UK.
