Government orders review into Irish Water

The Government has ordered a review of procedures and communications at Irish Water.

Cabinet decided a review was needed after a litany of controversies concerning the new utility and how it is communicating with the public.

Ministers hope the review will be seen as a statement of the need to maximise public trust in Irish Water, but have stopped short of replacing any of the senior figures within the troubled utility for the time being.

Sources admitted that there have been issues which need to be addressed regarding the rollout of the water charges system.

They also said the Government needs to do more to convince the public why Irish Water is considered necessary.

However, the Government will not taking over Irish Water's public relations campaign.
