A leading motoring organisation is calling on the Government to intervene to stop car insurance premiums rocketing.
The AA, which is also an insurance provider, says premiums have risen by almost 35% since January 2014.
It says industry transparency, regulatory changes and zero tolerance for fraud are required to tackle the issue of spiraling motor insurance costs.
Chief executive of the AA Brendan Nevin said court awards also needed to be standardised.
"Court awards are very unpredicatble. That's not good for the sustainability of the industry," he said.
"It's ultimately very bad for the consumer too. We need to standardise court awards, and take away the incentive to go to court if you can get the same from the Injuries Board."
