Girls continue to outperform boys in Leaving Cert

Girls are continuing to perform better than boys in all of the main Leaving Cert subjects, according to official figures out today.

Girls are continuing to perform better than boys in all of the main Leaving Cert subjects, according to official figures out today.

An analysis of this year's exam results reveals a gap between boys and girls in the core subjects of English, Irish and Maths.

Girls also performed better in foreign languages, History, Geography and Science.

Some 12.5% of boys failed ordinary level Maths, compared to 8.5% of girls.

The failure rate in ordinary level English was also two-and-a-half times higher among boys.
