Gardaí in Mayo are continuing to question a man in his early twenties, following the discovery of a woman's body yesterday.

Gardaí in Mayo are continuing to question a man in his early twenties, following the discovery of a woman's body yesterday.

The dead woman, believed to be in her late twenties and a mother of two, was found in a house in a rural area about three miles from Balla.

Deputy State Pathologist Dr Michael Curtis is due to carry out a post mortem at Mayo General hospital in Castlebar today.

The man, who was arrested in the Castlebar area last night, is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and can be questioned for up to 24 hours.
