Gardaí are appealing for information on the whereabouts of two Japanese tourists in their 60s who have not been seen since Saturday.
63-year-old Eiji Takagi and 61-year-old Ushio Azaki checked out of their hotel in Spanish Point in Clare on Saturday morning.
The alarm was raised by locals who noticed that the couple - who were both due to fly out from Shannon Airport on Monday - had not returned to their rental car at Georges Head car park in Kilkee for a number of days.
Gardaí said the rental car- a red Hyundai - is believed to have been parked there on Saturday night. Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have seen the car on Saturday to contact them.
A search operation has been ongoing since yesterday by the Gardaí and the Coastguard.
Martoni Vaughan from Kilkee Coastguard said the search will continue until the pair are found.
"We have multiple assets in pace at the moment … when we complete an extensive search of the northern coastline, we will focus on the southern side of Kilkee bay," he said.
"We'll be going forward and backward continuously - for however long it takes."
