Gardaí investigating the assault and false imprisonment of a security man in Co. Laois have made a third arrest.

Officers arrested a 35-year-old man this afternoon and he is being held at Portlaoise Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

The incident happened at an Irish Rail compound in Kilbricken, Mountrath, on the morning of December 5, 2017.

The man, who works as a security man at the Irish Rail compound, was attacked by a number of men when he arrived for work.

They then locked him into his car boot before escaping in another vehicle.
