Gardaí in Cork are investigating after the body of a man was discovered in suspicious circumstances in Co Cork.

Gardaí in Cork are investigating after the body of a man was discovered in suspicious circumstances in Co Cork.

The body was found in a house in the Knockgorm area of Cloyne sometime before noon today and gardai immediately cordoned off the scene.

It is understood that the man - who is believed to be in his 70s - had some injuries and gardaí have requested the services of the State Pathologist's Office.

The body of the man will remain at the scene pending a visit by Assistant State Pathologist.

A post-mortem is expected to take place later today at Cork University Hospital - the outcome of which will determine the course of the garda investigation.
