The Garda Ombudsman is investigating after a man in his early 40s was found dead in Co Kerry.
He had been arrested for public-order offences near his home in Killarney.
But, shortly after his arrival at Killarney garda station, an ambulance was called and he was transferred to Tralee General Hospital.
The man was found dead at around 7am today by a member of the public in a car wash next to a shop near the hospital.
It is understood that the man was no longer under the custody of gardaí when his death occurred.
Ombudsman investigators have been deployed to the scene and will examine the circumstances of the death.
The Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission has appealed for anyone who may have encountered the man in the early hours of this morning, or anyone with information which may assist the investigation, to contact them on 1890 600 800.
