The Garda Commissioner said today that any move by gardaí to engage in a "blue flu" is "not on".
Commissioner Martin Callinan said that he has had no indication that any industrial action is in the pipeline.
The Executive Council of the Garda Representative Association is meeting today to discuss its position on the Croke Park extension talks.
They have already said any further pay cuts would not be acceptable to them.
Commissioner Callinan said that gardaí are not in a position to engage in industrial action.
"I'm on no notice that such an event is planned for the future," he said.
"Obviously, I would hope that something like that would not happen.
"We are a professional policing service, and we are the guardians of the peace and our job is to ensure that we maintain the peace and obviously any form of industrial action would mitigate against providing that type of service and from my perspective - it’s not on."
