Garda body concerned about unrecorded crimes
The body in charge of Garda standards says it is concerned at the level of crimes which aren't being recorded by Gardaí.
The Garda Inspectorate says there have been repeated concerns that not every phone call, reporting a crime, is logged by Gardaí.
Deputy inspector Mark Toland says regular audits by the CSO have found some stations have no system to record alleged crimes.
And he says that means it's very difficult to say for certain how many Gardaí are needed on our streets: "The worry for me is when a member of the public walks up to a Garda on the street, rings up, that is not always appearing in the crime system, the pulse system and that is a real worry and it is really difficult to decide how many guards you actually need if you don't know how busy you are."
