Focus on homophobic and transphobic bullying at Dublin conference

Dealing with homophobic and transphobic bullying in schools will be discussed at a Dublin conference today.

The Minister for Education Ruairí Quinn will officially launch the first ever EU conference on the subject, which is being held in association with the Irish EU Presidency.

The Department of Education has recently published a national Action Plan on Bullying that includes measures to tackle prejudice, including homophobia and transphobia.

Director of GLEN Brian Sheehan said Ireland was providing leadership in tackling these issues.

"Ireland is making very strong progress in tackling bullying on the grounds of perceived or actual sexual orientation in Irish schools," he said.
