A fisherman died in an accident off the Cork coast last night.
His body was recovered in an operation involving two coast guard helicopters.
He is the second fisherman to die off the south coast this week.
The man suffered severe head injuries in an incident on board the trawler, Liberty, which is believed to have been fishing out of Dunmore East.
Valentia coast guard station tasked Shannon-based Rescue 115 from an exercise to medevac the stricken crewman some 25 nautical miles south of the Old Head of Kinsale around 7pm.
But the aircraft ran low on fuel due to the extended nature of the incident and the Waterford-based Rescue 117 was scrambled as Rescue 115 returned to Cork Airport.
Tragically, the coast guard crews got word that the man died just before 8pm.
His body was recovered by Rescue 117 and flown to Cork Airport before being transferred to a Cork University Hospital where a post mortem is expected to take place today.
