FF: 'We're not afraid of anyone'

Fianna Fáil's honorary secretary has said the party "isn't afraid of anyone" as it prepares for the next election.

Mayo TD Dara Calleary said the party will fight the election campaign on its own platform and its ordinary members will decide on any coalition deal.

The question of coalition partners is set to dominate the party's Árd Fheis, kicking off in Dublin this evening.

Delegates are being asked to vote on one motion ruling out a coalition with Fine Gael.

Deputy Calleary said the party was happy to fight its own battles.

"We are the biggest party in local government, so we have no fear of anyone," he said.

"Any post-election government arrangement, no matter who it's with, will have to go to a specially-convened Ard Fheis."
