Female judge assaulted at family law courts in Dublin

A man has been arrested in connection with an alleged assault on a female judge in one of Dublin’s family law courts.

Judge Miriam Walsh was taken to hospital, but has since been discharged.

The assault is alleged to have happened at around lunchtime today while Judge Miriam Walsh was listening to evidence from a man in one of the cases before the family law court at Dolphin House in Dublin.

It is alleged she was hit a number of times before Gardaí stepped in and brought the situation under control.

Judge Walsh, a former solicitor who was only called to the bench during the summer, was taken to hospital but has since been discharged.

A man was arrested at the scene and taken to Pearse Street Garda Station for questioning.

A spokesperson for the Courts Service has confirmed that a violent incident took place at the venue and says its “security systems were in place and operational at the time” and this allowed Gardaí to intervene.

The suspect, who’s in his 30s, can be detained for up to 24 hours.
