The Immigrant Council of Ireland said figures confirming that prostitution and drugs account for an estimated €1.2bn of our economic activity – or 0.7% of GDP – again underline the foothold organised crime has in our communities.
The Council said the cash generated is fuelling sex-trafficking and human rights abuses.
The Immigrant Council is calling on the Government to show leadership and ensure our laws are robust enough to put the criminals behind such activities out of business.
