A group of four Dublin work colleagues have collected a €2m Lotto jackpot today.
The delighted winners, aged in their 20s and 30s, won the jackpot a month ago, on Wednesday April 8, 2015, after buying their ticket on the National Lottery’s website.
They only found out their good news recently when the syndicate member that bought their ticket returned from holiday.
They celebrated the news over a bottle of champagne at National Lottery offices today as they collected their jackpot cheque and spoke of how surprised they are to be Lotto winners.
“We started buying our tickets online in January as it’s so handy”, said one of the lucky group.
“I was on holiday in April and didn’t realise we’d won until I got back.
“My first reaction when I checked the account was that it must be a mistake! I sent one of the others a screenshot of the ticket and called him and said, check your messages – you won’t believe this!”
The remaining two members of the syndicate were then contacted,
“He was ringing and ringing me and I just ignored it as I thought it was something to do with work!” smiled another of the foursome.
One of the happy winners talked about how perfect the timing is for him.
“I’m soon to become a dad and I was about to get a loan for an extension on the house and a new car,” he said.
“Now I don’t need to. This is just the best!”
The four colleagues, who wish to keep their identities private, plan to have a night out on the town together soon to celebrate their big win.
Tomorrow night the Lotto jackpot will rise to an estimated €6m.
