A number of Dublin city centre residents had to leave their homes overnight after the discovery of a suspicious device.

A number of Dublin city centre residents had to leave their homes overnight after the discovery of a suspicious device.

The alarm was raised at about 11.40pm last night when gardaí were notified of a car windows being smashed on Forbes Lane off Thomas Street.

The device was found inside the vehicle.

The army bomb disposal team was called out and a number of people were evacuated while they dealt with the incident.

No controlled explosion was carried out and the device has been removed for technical examinations.

The all-clear was given at about 3.30am and people were allowed to return to their homes.
