A Dublin man was counting coins from money jars last week - but now he's €500,000 richer after winning collecting his prize from National Lottery HQ.

The lucky winner, who wishes to remain private, bought his €6 Quick Pick ticket for the Daily Million draws on the National Lottery’s website on April 22, 2015.

He then logged out of his account and didn’t think any more of it.

It wasn’t until last week, when a message from the National Lottery reminded to check his account, that he discovered he had won half a million euros.

As the delighted winner claimed his cheque at National Lottery offices in Dublin today, he said: "I’d been saving coins in two jars for a year to go towards a trip to the US to visit a friend, and I was counting them when I got the message from the Lottery.

"I couldn’t believe it when I logged in to my online account and saw all those zeros!

"The bills had been piling up and I was considering getting a loan to make things easier – then this happened!

"You always hope that it will happen to you, but you don’t really think it will.

"It’s like a great dream that I haven’t woken up from.

"For me, this is a chance to make things better – a chance to make a good life!"

Daily Million is a daily number draw game in which players can pick any six numbers (from 1 to 39) for a chance to win €1m.

At each draw six random numbers are drawn. For an extra 50c per panel, the Daily Million numbers are entered into a second draw, Daily Million Plus with a top prize of €500,000 to play for.
