Dublin hospital to test all A&E patients for HIV and Hepatitis

St James's Hospital in Dublin is to routinely test all Emergency Department patients for HIV as well as Hepatitis B and C from now on.

It follows a pilot project last year which management said highlighted the prevalence of all three viral infections among the 45,000 ED patients they see every year.

The announcement has been made on the occasion of World Hepatitis Day.

The hospital said that the commencement of the scheme represents international best practice.
