Dublin couple collect €2.9m Lotto cheque

A happy couple from North County Dublin arrived at Lotto HQ today to claim their €2,917,462 Lotto jackpot from Wednesday’s night’s draw.

Their lucky Lotto ticket was a €4 Quickpick selection purchased on the day of the draw in the Topaz service station on the Malahide Road in Balgriffin, Co Dublin.

The happy couple, who wish their win to be private, only discovered this morning that they had won Midweek Lotto.

The happy husband said: "We only discovered this morning, so we decided to come to National Lottery offices before the weekend.

"Still can’t believe this. We’re in total shock! When I saw the numbers on the ticket this morning, my daughter was there with her phone, and as she was calling out the numbers from lottery.ie to me, I was able to finish them for her from my Lotto ticket. Unreal!

"She thought I was joking! I know the ad says: ‘It could be you’ and now it is me, but I never really thought this would ever, ever happen."

The couple, who are nearing retirement, have some plans for the win.

"We’ll be looking after family and planning our retirement in style! But the first thing we will do is go on a big sun holiday and chill out for a while," said the lucky wife.

Lady luck also smiled on a married couple from Co. Mayo when they bought an All Cash Spectacular Scratch Card in Centra, Market Street, Killala, Co. Mayo and won the massive top prize of €200,000.

Speaking today as they claimed their prize at National Lottery offices in Dublin, one of the lucky duo said, “I scratched it on the way to work and I couldn’t believe it! We’re absolutely delighted.”

The winners wish to remain private.
