There are indications that the proposed Children's Rights Referendum might not take place.
The referendum, which was due to be held last year, was postponed because of a delay on a report from the Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children.
It is due to deliver a set of recommendations on the matter in the coming weeks.
Children’s Minister Barry Andrews has said there are many who believe that the relevant protections can be afforded to children without a referendum taking place.
