Another heatwave may be on the way, say weather forecasters.

According to Met Éireann, a band of high pressure from the north and over Scandinavia is expected to push down over Ireland next week, causing temperatures to reach about 23C or 24C.

"It would be a bit premature to say we're definitely looking at another heatwave but certainly we shouldn't give up hope. The high pressure is there so it could develop over Ireland," said Met Éireann forecaster John Eagleton.

The hopeful outlook comes after up to 89 millimetres of rain fell in parts of the east and midlands this weekend, causing flooding in some areas. Dublin was worst hit.
