Developers to be compelled to build social housing

New laws to make developers build social housing are in the pipeline.

Housing Minister Jan O'Sullivan has said 10% of newly constructed units should be set aside for social use.

Currently builders can opt out of designating 20% of their development as social and affordable.

It is hoped the move will address the homeless crisis, with an increase in the number of families losing their homes due to rising rents.
