The newly elected President of the HSE Dental Surgeons group Frances O’Callaghan has said waiting lists for treatment under general anaesthesia, orthodontics and oral surgery are continuing to rise due to the lack of resources.
O’Callaghan added that while the service is continuing to lose staff members other representatives are not being replaced due to the current recruitment embargo.
She believes increased numbers of patients are presenting with pain and infection, requiring complex treatments and hospital admission in some cases, which is leaving dentists struggling to cope.
