The Office of the Data Protection Commissioner has said it will be monitoring the new Facebook feature 'Places' very closely.

The Office of the Data Protection Commissioner has said it will be monitoring the new Facebook feature 'Places' very closely.

The feature uses GPS and mobile phone signals to alert friends on the social-networking site to each other's location at any given time.

The feature launched in the US this week and will soon be available to Irish users.

But the Data Protection Commissioner has said it has serious concerns about privacy issues.
