The stand-off has been going on for more than a week.

John Lonergan, chairman of the Ballyphehane and South Parish anti-water tax group, said the protesters were well within their rights to continue their blockade, and were out in force again this morning.

"We have people here since 5.30am this morning," he said. "(We heard) that Irish Water were coming up early this morning."
