A man has died after falling from his bicycle in Co Cork yesterday.

A man has died after falling from his bicycle in Co Cork yesterday.

The 71- year-old was out cycling with a group of colleagues on the Castletownbere to Ardgroom Road when he came off his bicycle and struck the ground at around 4.40pm.

His colleagues administered CPR, until a local doctor attended the scene.

The doctor pronounced the man dead a short time later. His body was taken to Cork University Hospital where a post mortem will be carried out.

No one else was injured.

The road was closed to facilitate a Garda Forensic Collision examination and has now reopened.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the collision to contact them at Castletownbere Garda Station on 027 70002, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
