Consular assistance provided to family of Irishman who died in San Francisco

The Department of Foreign Affairs is providing consular assistance to the family of an Irishman who has died in San Francisco.

The man has been named as Dean MacCearaín, from Co Monaghan - who also features in the Queen of Ireland film about Panti Bliss.

Panti Bliss took to Facebook last night to pay tribute to the 23-year-old - describing him as a smart, quick-witted, funny young man.

If you can't see the Facebook post, you can view it here.

It is understood Dean was on holiday with his family when he passed away.

The cause of his death is not yet known.
