Karen has not previously travelled outside Dublin city, as far as gardaí are aware.

Inspector John Burke said the fact that Karen has special needs is adding to their concerns: "She is described as approximately 5ft 4in tall, medium build, blue eyes and short blond hair.

"Last seen she was wearing white runners, peach coloured hoody and black jeans. Obviously her family are very, very concerned about her as is the community in Finglas.

"We have had a reasonably good response to all the appeals that have gone out over the weekend. We are following a good few lines of inquiry…We are anxious to locate her."

Karen had a number of brightly coloured tops with her in reds, greens and blues. She may have had some money with her, but as far as gardaí know she had no passport with her. She had no mobile phone with her.

She has not previously left home for this length of time. Nobody has reported speaking to Karen since she went missing.
