Car sought in connection with two armed robberies

Gardaí have launched an investigation following two armed robberies in the north Dublin area.

Two men armed with a shotgun robbed a bookmaker’s shop in Main Street, Lusk, at 11.25am today.

They threatened a female member of staff before making off with a small amount of cash in a dark-coloured Mercedes car, which travelled out of Lusk towards the Rush roundabout.

Fifteen minutes later, two armed and masked men robbed a convenience store in Oldtown, Co Dublin.

They threatened a female member of staff and fled with a small amount of cash and cigarettes – also in a dark-coloured Mercedes car.

This car travelled in the direction of Fieldstown Bridge towards Dublin.

No shots were fired in either incident and no injuries were sustained.

Gardaí in Balbriggan have appealed for anyone who may have seen a dark- coloured Mercedes with a partial registration number of “11 D” in the area between 11am and 12pm this morning.

Technical examinations have been carried out at both scenes.

Elsewhere, in the north-west of the city, a security man was injured in a robbery at a shopping centre.

The victim was servicing a cash machine in Blanchardstown Shopping Centre at around 1.20pm when he was struck on the head from behind.

The offender made off with a small security box containing a large amount of money.

He made his escape in a dark-coloured BMW driven by a second man.

The victim was taken to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown. His injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

A technical examination of the scene was carried out and Gardai in Blanchardstown have urged anyone with information to come forward.
