A rally is being held in Limerick today after a series of attacks which culminated in two young children being burned in an alleged arson.
Organisers of the protest said they wanted to show solidarity with those subjected to violence and anti-social behaviour.
Mother-of-two Sharon Clancy told a newspaper: “We cannot allow what has happened to those two little children to be forgotten. If we do, others will be hurt.
“It is now time to say ’stop’. The thought that something like this has happened two little children. It is unbelievable.
“It is a horrific situation and the situation should not have come to this level where something like this can happen.”
The suspected arson attack on a car on September 10 left two children aged six and four badly burned at Pineview Gardens. Two 17-year-olds have been charged.
A man was shot in a separate incident at Ballyneety outside the city on Tuesday.
Local councillors were also due to attend today’s event.
Ms Clancy, 27 and a native of Murroe, organised the public meeting to take place outside Limerick City Hall at 2pm.
She added: “If people don’t stand up it will be ignored. Politicians will say something has to be done, but then the next big drama occurs and they move on to that.”
