Calls to ban microbeads in Ireland

Microbeads that are often used in cosmetics could be banned in Ireland.

Thousands of the small balls of plastic are sometimes found in toothpaste, shower gels and cleansers.

Calls are being made for the beads to be banned as they pose a threat to our fish stocks and wildlife.

Green Party Councillor in Dublin Ciaran Cuffe says they're already banned in the US.

"In the United States they are successfully banned, so it's not as if we are the first to propose this."
