A teenage boy has died following a farm accident, while his brother remains in stable condition.

Two young brothers were being treated in hospital after a farm accident in Co Carlow earlier today.

They were injured when a trailer they were travelling on overturned and ended up in a river near the village of Ballon.

Both were being treated at St Lukes Hospital in Kilkenny, but at about 6pm, gardaí confirmed that the 14-year-old had died of his injuries.

The 15-year-old brother suffered minor injuries and has now been released from hospital.

The Health and Safety Authority are investigating.
