A road has been closed in Co Limerick to allow an Army bomb disposal unit examine suspicious items, which Gardaí believe may be linked to dissident republicans.

The Cork-based army Explosive Ordnance Disposal team received a request at 9am from Gardaí in the Roxboro district of Limerick to examine the items.

Gardaí have closed the Fedamore to Meanus road.

The operation is ongoing, according to security sources.
