Body recovered from Grand Canal during search for missing man

Gardaí who were searching for a missing man in Dublin have recovered a body from the Grand Canal, writes Eoin English.

The body was recovered by members of the Garda Water Unit in the Grand Canal close to Harcourt Terrace around 12.30pm.

The area has been sealed off pending a technical examination.

The man has not yet been positively identified but it is believed he died as a result of drowning.

The body has been removed to the City Morgue where a post mortem examination will take place tomorrow, and formal identification will be made.

Gardaí had been searching for Mehdi Hasan, 25, who had been missing since the early hours of Friday morning.

They issued a public appeal for help yesterday tracing him, after he was last seen on Leeson Street in Dublin at around 4am on Friday.
