A body has been recovered in the search for a woman missing in Galway city.

A major operation was launched early this morning after a woman was reported missing in the vicinity of O'Brien's bridge just after 2am.

Galway RNLI, along with Mill Street Gardai, Galway Fire Brigade and the Irish Coastguard rescue helicopter, searched the river estuary and harbour area but nothing was found.

The Valentia Coastguard have said it has recovered a body during the search just after 1pm this afternoon.
