Bikes scheme proposed for Cork and Galway

Cork and Galway could be in line to get their own versions of the Dublin bikes scheme.

Cork and Galway could be in line to get their own versions of the Dublin bikes scheme.

The hugely successful programme is almost two years old, and has clocked up around two million trips.

The National Transport Authority has compiled a report which identifies the two other cities as being suitable for similar initiatives, but also recommends further research.

The report comes just days since it was announced that €700,000 is being invested in new cycle lanes in Cork.
