A father whose 16 year old son died, has said the most difficult time for bereaved parents is immediately after the death.
Anam-Cara: a support organisation for bereaved parents, has launched an information pack for those who have lost children.
It is also aimed at members of the emergency services and other sectors that work with families.
Derry Clarke lost his 16 year old son in December of 2013.
Derry has said the guide has practical advice for parents to try and understand their huge grief and loss.
“Where you really need support, with bereavement is the actual instant after it happens. That time, that month or two, that’s the hardest for sure,” Mr Clarke said.
“Because everything changes completely and you are in a place you were never in before so any help you can get, anywhere, is a positive.”
Anam Cara have today launched a Bereavement Information Pack to help address the shortfall in information for parents after the death of a son or daughter. The pack contains seven booklets written by bereaved parents themselves and addressing themes such as ‘A Dad’s Grief’ and ‘the Grieving Family’. Find out more here
